Pet Wellness Care
At Companion Animal Hospital Wicker Park, it’s a pleasure to see our patients year after year for their checkup. Pet wellness care includes annual exams, blood and parasite screening, and vaccinations. During your pet’s checkup, we can either establish a plan or touch base to discuss their current routine and any concerns you have. Diet, behavior, exercise, and socialization are other important factors we can discuss if you think you need more guidance.

Why Pets Need Annual Exams
There are many reasons your pet can benefit from an annual wellness exam:
- Protecting your pet from illness is often easier than treating them after they’ve become infected
- It can be more cost-effective in the long run
- It makes us more capable of detecting underlying problems
- If we catch these problems at the start, we can prevent them from causing lasting damage to your pet’s health
Giving Puppies and Kittens the Best Start
Pets are fragile in their first 6-8 weeks of life, which is also when they should start seeing their veterinarian. We start with a thorough physical exam and fecal testing to check for parasites. Roundworms are common in puppies and kittens, and can be treated with prescribed medication. Your new pet also needs vaccine boosters to increase their immunity to diseases like distemper, parvo, and panleukopenia so they’ll be less vulnerable to infection.
